Cabin Update

A couple of work weekends this fall saw a few jobs completed.

The solar panels were remounted on steel supports.( snow load was an issue)

The roof got painted. ( snow load was an issue)

and additional rafters were placed inside.( again, snow load was an issue). Plus the cabin now has a ceiling to help with keeping the heat lower.

The 5th Annual Friends & Family Camping Weekend - Sept/2009

Another excellent September long weekend for our 5th Annual Friends & Family Camping Weekend at the Cabin!

It was even warm enough to swim. Lindsay took a swim in Hunter Lake, Robinson Lake and the Black River!

Here's a few pics of one of the younger generation enjoying the great outdoors .

The Annual Hunter Lake Fishing Tournament proved to be a challenge as several teams were at risk of being skunked as time ran out.

This year's Hunter Lake's Master Angler is once again Sydney Bremner. Sydney is a fishing machine! Will she three-peat next year?

Critter Cam Pics

Here's some of the latest pics from the critter cam in July.
(Note that the time stamp is 12 hours out and should say AM when it says PM and PM when it's AM)

Barry on bike. (There were actually a ton of pics of Barry fixing his bike)

Barry meets Phil.

Once again, we had unknown visitors.

Then there are the ones we do know. Such as Charlie and Niki arrived early July.

Barry & Matt with their bikes.

We also got pics of Rob & Family (no bat pics though), plus Ryan & Katie and Barry & Family.

Then there are the wildlife shots.

Crows check for left overs as soon as anyone leaves.

A racoon checks out the place as soon as we go inside.

A hawk, possibly a Merlin.

and yes, another bear . He looks wet.

Cabin Trip June 28th - July 1st 2009

We had a very relaxing couple of days at the Cabin. Yes, it did rain but only 2-3 times a day and still we had enough sunshine to get in a few criuses around the lake.

Shawn and Jack showed up on Wed. Just as we were packing to leave.
Jack soon found a place to play.
( He was already in his second set of clothes.)

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

It didn't end well!!

"Dad! Help!!

Work Weekend June 5th to 7th 2009

With all five owners going you knew something was going to be built.

Murray packed only essentials. Luckily, he does not have a bigger trailer!

He even found time for his hobby ...... planting trees in the rain.

The new Muskoka room takes up most of the new deck.

Stay tuned for pics of the new shower addition!

Oh Yeah. No sign of the bear this time.

Lost items!!

Well, we continue to lose things from the Cabin. It appears someone is systematically looking for things to walk off with.

Missing Items

Portable radio (2005)
Propane lantern (Doug's)(2005)
Canoe (Dad's) (summer of 2006)
Binnoculars (Dad's) ( 2006)
Sleeping bag (Barry's) ( 2007)
Generator (Barry's 1200 watts, new) (2008)
Pair of loading ramps (Barry's)(Fall of 2008)
Fishing Pole ( Doug's 5' spinning rod/reel)

It looks like we will have to increase security. Perhaps add more surveillance cameras as the ones we have, have had limited success.

The Cabin Bear

Barry, Roz and their two girls were up at the Cabin for the May long weekend only to find that the Cabin has a new mascot!!!
This bear did not want to go away. Barry scared it off several times and it kept coming back.

Cabin Trip March 13th - 15th

We had another great weekend at the Cabin if you don't count the -20C on Friday night but there were signs that spring was coming.

Daytime temperatures were +8C and led to many outdoor activities. Like sledding.

Girls on the slopes.

....and dock repair.... again!

Work crew on break!

... this may be a new sport ..... joisting anyone?

Still lots of snow but froze hard and we could ATV anywhere through the bush.

Barry at Robinson Lake.

Girls take Jerry for a ride. Hunter Lake ice was over 20 inches thick.

.... and finally the trip out to head home.

Ist Cabin Trip of 2009

Arrived with Barry and Jerry about 8 PM Friday night at the Lewisham "parking lot" . We loaded up the Quads and headed in despite warnings of "no snow" and "2 ft of water" on the road from flooding.

Half way in Barry found that the river (right behind him) is only down a few inches from the road level.

It turned out that there was still 3 ft of snow but only 1 ft of water to drive through at the low culvert.
No problem for the Quads. We drove right to the Cabin with all our gear.

With all the snow, parking was at a premium.

Saturday nite hit -22C and we had to bring the beer in but we found the loft very cosy for sleeping and didn't even have to open a window.

It warmed up to -8 C on Sunday and Jerry found time for a little skiing across the lake.

and Barry and I found time to drop the old dead pine .... without hitting the Cabin!

By the time we left Sunday, freezing rain had started, just to make the drive home interesting. Never a dull trip!!!
