Hydro at the Cabin

I got it finished!!!

The hydro generating station installed at the Cabin works! Opened the gate valve and we had hydro to the Cabin. We left it running to charge a bank of batteries in the Cabin. Barry took the pics of me making the last connection. I hope to do a video of the whole thing in the future.
We also pulled the sunken paddle boat out, plus ... the Banshee, the raft and put Rob's sail boat on his trailer.
Barry got a partridge for supper, nice treat!
....took down the gazebo and put things away for the winter.
Very nice weekend. Watched the beavers clear cut the front 20 acres for their 5 dams.
PS: Checked the  surveillance cameras and  saw that we had "visitors" in October.

The 7th Annual Family and Friends Camping Weekend - Sept/2011

The Annual Family and Friends Camping Weekend was a huge success with 24 people attending.

The "RibFest" on Saturday was hotly contested with five chefs presenting their best for consumption. A straw poll indicated that Marcy's ribs with her home brew marinate a favourite with the crowd

The Annual Hunter Lake Master Angler Fishing Derby had a record number of teams entered and the fish were biting!.  No teams were skunked!

 Although frogs were not eligible!

Team standings.

The Teams

Team Argo fished with a huge disadvantage. The Argo makes so much noise when under way on the lake that all the fish moved to the other side!

Team Monster Fish didn't find the Monster Fish and slid in to 3rd place.

Team Rookies had First Place nailed until the last Team weighed in and they had to settle for second place.

The Team winners! Team High Fives! brought in the big ones to take First Place!

Top Fish went to Doug who in past years has finished second more times than he cares to count.

 Youngest fisherman went to Gavin.

.... Jack has his favorite pick of the many prizes available.

Hope to see everyone back next year!

Cabin Trip with Rob June 30th

We tackled some extensive modifications at the cabin.

Here Rob tries to find a satellite.

Then we updated the party raft with new carpeting.

Since we found the sail boat tied to the dock but sitting on the bottom of the lake we had to pull it out to drain it.

and last but not least we taught the squirrels to drink beer!!

Cabin Wish List

Items we need or like to have for the Cabin (in no particular order)

  1. One more 15 watt solar panel (bigger is better but it has to be for a 12 volt system).
  2. Air pump to blow up water toys.
  3. Hot water dispenser (runs on propane).
  4. Strings of white LED lites for deck lighting.
  5. Two loads of 3/4 stone for the lane.
  6. Lumber for a new dock.
  7. 26" flat screen LED TV - possibly with DVD player but not necessary.

Cabin Map

I was thinking that a nice feature for cabin users would be a map.
A kind of fun map (not an official gov't type map) that shows the points of interest to see around the Cabin. Several of our cabin users do not venture far from the Cabin because they either don't know what there is to see or what direction or how far it might be.
It could cover from Lewisham lane, to Victoria falls,
to Lewisham, Ragged Rapids, etc. The points of interest could be scenic views, fishing spots, swimming places, all Barry's trails, old cabins, Beaver Dams etc

see http://www.therebydesign.com/kitchener_map.htm as an example

Annual Spring Mud Trip

This year Shawn, Barry, Jim, Rob & Doug braved the unknown for the 2011 Annual Spring Mud Trip.
Barry & Jim wondered what they were getting into when they met Lonney coming out and he stopped to say "I'm getting out before the water gets any higher!"
Luckily, I was in first in and texted the boys to advise them that the road was dry. Now, Rob swears that he had water over the hood but who knows where he was driving! Shawn drove his Highlander right to the Cabin and did report "some water" on the road.

Saturday was wet and windy but didn't stop Barry & Jim from trying to get to Lewisham. Only when they had to float their quads across did they decide to turn back. Sunday started with a whiteout and it came and went all day but it never seemed very cold as the sun came out now and then.

(Sorry, no pics)

Barry & Jim's trip into the Cabin - April 17th

A few pics show that their trip in was interesting!

It looks like a foot deep .....  unless the culvert has been washed out. See next video to find out.

Then there is a rumour that the local bandito club stole their food.

March 18th Spring Cabin trip

Barry and I drove to Lewisham Lane after work on Friday not sure if we could drive in the Black River road or not.
Gail had said there were "some soft parts" on the road and after her previous warning last Dec about "a little water on the road, just gun it" that splashed over the hood we were inclined to be cautious.
Arriving at Lewisham Lane, the road looked good and Barry was seriously considering going for it ... then he got stuck in the mud on Lewisham lane! That decided, we unloaded his ATV and motored in to the Cabin with our stuff. Except for some slow going in deep snow up the Cabin lane it was an easy trip in.
Highlite of the weekend had to be motoring across the smooth ice on the lakes and sloughs. Very smooth, very little traction! Nothing like sliding forever ..  with the brakes locked .....  towards open water! On somebody else's quad!

Cabin Trip Feb 4th-6th

What a sweet trip! Drove into Phil's. No problem at all! Then he delivered our supplies to the Cabin by snowmobile. We found the heat already on, the cabin not only warmed up but water boiling on the stove.

Warren and Lynn arrived Friday nite in time for supper and Rob motored in on his trusty Polaris early Saturday in time to meet the skiers at Robson lake for lunch around the fire.

Temperatures stayed around -1C , sunny at times. The snow was soft and up to your knees or deeper. Tough job breaking ski trails for the guy in front but perfect for the guys behind!

Lynn being the only girl had to put up with all the "tractor" talk and maybe heard a few things about Warren that he had "forgotten" to mention.

Thanks to Warren for the great group pic!! It took a few tries as four people were trying to put their cameras on 10 sec delay at the same time and then run through the snow to get into the picture.
