Family Cabin Schedule for 2018.

1) The cabin and trailer are now considered separate accommodations.
This means we expect to be able to allow people to use the cabin and other people to use the trailer, at the same time. We may, also allow tenting elsewhere on the property at the same time.

2) All long weekends are open to the family for whoever wants to go.

This will allow more people to use the property in the short summer weeks.
After all, this is a family vacation property and we don't want to have to say "No" to anyone.

3) All the recreational equipment is to be shared by everyone. ie. canoes, paddles, life jackets, etc
Please ask the owner before using an ATV/UTC/motorcycle. Remember if you break it ,you will be responsible to fix it

4) As usual, all requests to use the trailer or cabin go through Doug. (the owners then decide to grant or decline the request, depending on circumstances )

Important guidelines!

  1. Play safe …It's a long way to a hospital. Cell phones may not work and 911 may not be able to find you here. (our 911 # is 1177 Black River Rd, East)
  2. Wear lifejackets when on the water … 4 people have drowned near here in the last 10 years.
  3. Don't wander off by yourself because there are no “Search / Rescue” efforts until first light.
  4. Tend your campfires carefully, especially in dry periods. There is a good chance of a forest fire.
  5. Take your garbage home.. feeding the bears is not recommended.
  6.  Leave the wood box full, the next visitor will thank you.
  7. Don't leave mousetraps set in the summer when you leave.... It can be a stinky mess by the time someone finds it.
  8. Replace the campfire wood you use when possible.
  9. If things break , either fix /replace it or tell someone about it so we can fix it.
  10. Turn off the hydro at the inverter, the propane tank in the shed and lock the doors, windows and gate when you leave
In general, leave the Cabin as good or better than you found it.
Thank you,
the Bremner Boys

Prospecting for Gold at Ragged Rapids for those interested while fishing for monster bass at Robinson Lake is an alternative.
Great campfires promised!!

The Cabin will be serving Hamburgers,Hot dogs, and corn on the cob for Sat supper. Salads and desert are pot luck. Please advise what you plan on bringing to better plan our meal.

Please let us know so accommodations can be planned.

The Annual Fishing Derby results!!
Another successful Fishing Derby (even if the fish seemed smaller this year!)

Ukele was back! Sue lead the young and old through hours of songs that everyone enjoyed.

Warren and Lynn (the infamous "Up B4 Noon" team show off their canoe skills.

Craig and kids ,Tori and Zach swam across Hunters Lake .... and back... just because they could!!!

Atv rides were popular, with the kids always looking for a new driver to take them for a ride.

Excellent weather for the Sunday Fishing Derby!! (except for a few showers late Saturday)

Serious contenters in the fishing derby .... Team Un-ico-rns!

Felting proved popular for all age groups and Pat brought enough materials for everyone to give it a try!

Some of the boys!

Team "Older and Wiser + Zack" took home top honours in the Team fishing category and Craig took "Master Angler" for best fish.

Ron and Sue introduced drumming to the group and many tried their drumming skills.

Cabin Maintenance June 2018

Re stained the deck. Hope it lasts longer this time.

Installed a new kitchen stove. Five burners and an oven that works.

Taps and drains hooked up for the summer. Water barrels full.

Put the dock back together with Barry for summer use...Launched the raft ...had a swim and found the lake quite warm!

Barbecue fixed temporarily  .. . will need permanent fix or replacement by fall.

Hummingbirds are back,too!

Black Fly Reconnaissance May 17th - 19th

Yes, there were black flies! Doug,Marcy,Nick and Lou braved bug season to check out the Cabin after a long and late flood season. Great weather with a good breeze made for a good time and wonderful campfires.

Spring Flood season has started - April 27th 2018

A quick check of the Black River water levels on the government website (https://wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/report/real_time_e.html?stn=02EC002) shows that the water level went up quickly with the warm weather.
Anything over 9.2 (on the left side) indicates the road is already under water. Probably, a good 2 kilometers. Since the water level is measured at Washago a change of .1 meter measured there is equal to a foot at the Black River road.

Which looked like this in 2008.

Black River Road - April 2008

So a measured 9.5 is like 3 feet on the road. The danger is just not from flooding out your engine but there is a good chance of your vehicle being washed off the road and into the river which is 12 feet deep and moving fast. This from hard earned experience. Two ATVs and an UTC were lost last year.

The flooding is due to snow melt more than rainfall. Yes there was a fair amount of snow still at the cabin as can be seen from Barry's pictures from April 21st.

Spring Ski Trip March 2018

Finally got back to the cabin after a long winter. Snow was getting scarce and we weren't sure there would be enough snow for x country skiing. Turned out that only Brussels and the Cabin had new snow!. 4 inches on top of a frozen hard base. Perfect for both the Yamaha and the skiers.

Doug and Charlie used the Yamaha for transportation and to haul the supplies in. Tough job but somebody has to do it.

Murray, Rob,Shawn and Bruce skied in from the car.

Some did need a ride!

and others just needed to collect supplies from the car after skiing in.

A Saturday ski trip to Robinson Lake proved to be a challenge for most but successful.

On Saturday night we celebrated Shawn's 50th birthday in great style with a steak dinner, a cake (didn't blow up!) , gifts, take no prisoners, euchre game and a campfire.

Winter Trip Feb 16th - 18th 2018

Arrived by Yamaha .Some doubt whether there would be enough snow but found lots in Washago and the Black River road groomed by snowmobile club so a fast smooth ride all the way in!

Easy to get around with snowmobiles and the lakes are smooth with a foot of ice or more. Fired up the Polaris and went looking for some hard wood for the woodshed on the back slough.
