11th Annual Friends and Family Cabin Weekend

Thanks to everyone for joining us at the Cabin for the 11th Annual Friends and Family Cabin Weekend. Great weather and a fun time for everyone!

Team Bremner tried to use their dog, Chase, to round up the fish.

Team Orca came through as the winning team, with Rob claiming Master Angler.

Big Winners for Biggest Fish, Most Fish and Largest Sunfish. Congratulations!!

and of course the highlight had to be the Sue leading the gang in Ukulele songs ...

Annual January Ski Trip - Jan 29th 2015

Road report from Gail was that the groomer had gone down the Black River road (8km) so it was smooth as a highway! So, we drove in. (Thank God we didn't have to walk!)

At least, as far as the cabin driveway. Murray (with Bruce and Jamie) made it in far enough to get off the road and we (Warren and I) parked behind them. Good so far (as long as it doesn't snow in the next 4 days).

After a short haul by sled to get our supplies to the cabin (annual heart stress test), we lit a fire to warm things up.

 -6 C Thursday night, very pleasant.... -30 C Friday night, not so pleasant!
Cabin kept at a toasty 28 C.


Rob joined us Friday with his trusty (or is that rusty) Polaris.

The cabin has it's own wine now.  "The Frisky Beaver" is a light, refreshing white wine with hints of winter and fresh snow.

The Friday ski trip took the boys to Ragged Rapids and other points before they got lost and bushwacked back to the Cabin.

Saturday saw fine weather with more skiing as the brave / foolish skied to Robinson Lake for lunch.

Sunday was just downright cold with a north wind but we were packing up and leaving anyway.

Annual Owners Meeting 2014

Jim and Tye joined us for the weekend once again. Jim brought us a few more batteries for the cabin which were much appreciated.

The boys did find time for some challenging atving,

Rob brought a log splitter to demo so we put in a bunch of wood for next year,

On Sunday we found out that we weren't leaving right away because the road was washed out, The beavers had damned the culvert causing the wash out on Saturday night.

A high hoe from Cooper Falls showed up by 2pm but needed a long pole to push the debris out of the culvert so we dropped a 50 foot pine for him to use.

A whirlpool formed as the beaver pond drained.

Gravel Delivery goes badly!

Although we were assured there would be no problem delivering two truck loads of gravel to our driveway the first truck got stuck not once but twice by backing off over the edge of the driveway.

The second time they couldn't pull the truck out so they left to get something bigger and returned two hours later with this.

It took about 10 minutes to pull the truck back up on to the driveway. 

By now one load of gravel has been dumped in the places it got stuck and the second truck load has been dumped off to the side. There was no offer to fill in the holes the truck has made or to move the load of gravel off to the side. They just packed up and got ready to leave.

THEN IT GOT WORSE. 

Then we got told that we were on the hook for a $1000 tow job!!!  Even though we were not advised of this risk prior to deliver (or the last two times they delivered gravel) . Even though the driver walked the driveway and said "no problem". Even though the driver backed off the edge. Twice! And the bulk of this bill was just for floating the high hoe in and back. They were only 15 km away!! $540 to go 30 km + 1 hr  for the high hoe on site + $400 for truck repair.

10th Annual Friends and Family Camping Weekend at the Cabin

Another excellent turnout and a great weekend. In spite of a few showers the fishing derby went off as planed.
